Introduction
In the latest updates of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (Release Wave 2026), Microsoft introduced improved functionality for managing item attributes at the variant level. This feature allows users to define and customize attributes—such as color, size, or material—for each item variant. It also ensures that variants automatically inherit attributes from the main item, making data management more efficient and consistent.
Business Value
Defining attributes for item variants helps businesses organize product information more clearly and accurately. Instead of creating multiple separate items, users can manage variations under a single item while still maintaining detailed information for each variant.
With this feature:
- Users can manage product variations more efficiently
- Reduces duplication of items in the system
- Ensures accurate and consistent product information
- Improves reporting and filtering based on attributes
