Introduction:

We’re excited to share an important update aimed at improving your experience with project accounting in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. We are updating the terminology we use for project accounting features. Specifically, we’re replacing the term “jobs” with “projects”. This change is designed to enhance clarity, improve documentation, and ensure consistency throughout the application.

Business Value:

  • Improved User Experience: By renaming “jobs” to “projects”, we’re using terminology that better matches what people in project accounting expect.
  • Clearer Documentation: The change will make our documentation more straightforward and easier to follow. You’ll find that instructions and guides are now more aligned with common industry language.
  • Consistent Terminology: Using “projects” consistently across the application helps avoid confusion and ensures that you encounter the same terms everywhere in the system.

What’s New?

For a long time, project accounting features in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central were referred to as “jobs”. We’ve recognized that this terminology doesn’t align with industry expectations, so we’re updating it to better reflect the nature of these features:

  • To see the Users Can Search by clicking on icon and user can see Project word instead of
  • Job Tasks will now be called Project Tasks.

  • Job Journals will be updated to Project Journals.
  • Job Planning Lines will become Project Planning Lines.

This renaming is part of our effort to clarify the purpose and function of these features for businesses of all types.

Impact on Your System:

The terminology change only affects the labels and descriptions you see in the user interface and documentation. It does not alter the names of underlying tables or fields, so your existing integrations and customizations will remain unaffected.

Conclusion:

The transition from “jobs” to “projects” in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is a step towards improving the user experience and clarity of our project accounting features. By aligning with industry-standard terminology, we make it easier for you to navigate the software and understand the documentation. This update supports a more consistent experience, helping you manage projects more effectively.
